LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Redshirt sophomore Aaron Boggs won his first career event as the Thundering Herd came in third at the Cardinal Intercollegiate at the Cardinal Club Tuesday afternoon.
Boggs, a Madison, W.Va. native, carded a one-under 71 for a 54-hole total of 210 (70-69-71) to earn a one shot victory over Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson (70-72-69-211). Boggs' victory is the first for a MU golfer since Sam O'Dell took home medalist honors at the 2000 UK/Owens Invitational. Marshall, which led the team race after day one of the tournament, fell to third. Miami (Ohio) earned the team honors with a three-round tally of 857 (289-279-289). Illinois State placed second (280-291-289-860) followed by the Herd (282-284-296-862).
Redshirt senior Christian Brand posted a two-under 70 in the final round as he tied for 15th with four others (75-72-70-217). Freshman Brian Anania tied for 27th (71-71-77-219) with four other players. Sophomore Nathan Kerns tied for 38th (69-73-79-221) with four other golfers. Junior Bosten Miller rounded out the Marshall performances as he tied for 44th (72-72-78-222) with three others.
Marshall resumes Fall play Oct. 3-4 at the Renaissance Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla.
