LEXINGTON, Ky. - After day one of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational the Marshall University women's golf team is tied for ninth place among the field of 16 teams. The Herd tallied 325 strokes on The University of Kentucky Club Big Blue Course, which places MU 14 strokes behind the leading Knights from the University of Central Florida.
Taking the lead role for The Herd on the 6,360-yard, par-72 course was Korakot Simsiriwong (Thailand/Starkville Academy), who posted an opening-round 77. Her five-over-par total places her tied for seventh among all ninety competitors. Following Simsiriwong was Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va./Brooke HS), who tallied 81 strokes in the first 18. Krystine Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana JC) and Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Ashland HS) shot an 83 and 84, respectively, while Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS) recorded 89 swings. Caitlyn Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana) also participated individually, finishing with an 89.
Following UCF in the team competition are the hosting Wildcats of Kentucky who are one stroke behind, alongside the Miami Hurricanes who are within range with an opening day 314.
