GULF SHORES, Ala.- The ladies of the Thundering Herd golf team concluded their 2011 fall season at the Peninsula Golf Club this past Tuesday, posting a two-round score of 675 to finish in eighth place out of 11 teams.
After shooting a first round score of 338 to sit in eighth place following day one, the ladies resumed action on Tuesday looking to move closer to the front of the field. And although the team did better its score by one stroke with a second round 337, the squad was still unable to improve its position, and finished wedged between Tennessee Tech's score of 666, and the University of South Dakota's two-round 678. Memphis won the tournament with a 603.
Samantha DiDomenico shot back-to-back 80s at the event to lead the Herd with a score of 160 and an 11th place finish. Rachel Thompson finished 24th with a score of 164 following rounds of 84 and 89, while Korakot Simsiriwong dropped seven strokes on Tuesday to shoot an 87 following an opening round score of 80. Caitlyn Morrone shot a 94 and a 90 for a score of 184 at the tournament. Allison Harper, who finished first place individually and helped lead Marshall to a victory at its last tournament, withdrew from the Beach Blast during the first round of the tournament.
The Herd will now take a three month break from tournament action, as it practices in preparation for its official spring season which begins on February 26, at the Kiawah Island Classic.
