HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall women's basketball finishes its road trip on Thursday as it travels to Dallas, Texas, to face SMU. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m., in Moody Coliseum.
"Moody is a tough place to play. SMU is a veteran basketball team that does not make very many mistakes. You have to go in there and play your best basketball," head coach Royce Chadwick said.
The Thundering Herd (6-16, 2-6 C-USA) snapped a seven game losing streak with a 57-48 victory against Southern Miss for its first-ever win at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Sunday afternoon.
In only her third game back from injury, Lateidra Elliott posted 15 points to go along with six assists in 38 minutes of action. Tynikki Crook also added 15 points in the win, coming just five points shy of taking fourth place on Marshall's all-time scoring list surpassing Tammy Wiggins (1983-87) who recorded 1,360 points in her career.
Alaya Mitchell chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, while Rashedah Henriques connecting on three treys for nine points while adding six rebounds and three steals on the afternoon.
"We have a little confidence built up after going to Southern Miss and putting forty minutes together," Chadwick continued. "We hope to build on that. Rashedah Henriques and Lateidra Elliott's are making a difference in our team every time they play and they are beginning to get more acclimatized after sitting out a month."
SMU (11-11, 4-5 C-USA) has dropped three of its last four games including a 69-60 loss to Rice behind C-USA Freshman of the Week Jessica Kuster's 22 point effort for the Owls. Christine Elliott put up 12 points for the Mustangs on six-of-12 shooting from the floor and currently leads the team with 10.8 points per game. Raquel Christian chipped in 10 points off the bench in the losing effort.
SMU has won five of six meetings all-time against the Herd dating back to the first matchup on Jan. 29, 2006. The Thundering Herd's lone victory came on the road against the Mustangs, a 70-63 win, during the 2008-09 season.
