OCALA, Fla. - Marshall's Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) shot the low round of the day, carding a 73 and improving seven strokes from Monday to earn a two-day total of 153 (80-73=153) in the final round of the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational at Juliette Falls Golf Resort on Tuesday afternoon. Harper earned her fourth tournament top-10 finish of the season tying for eighth place.
The Thundering Herd shaved off nine strokes from its 315 first round score to jump ahead of Ohio University (312-312=624) for a third place finish (315-306=621).
Fellow freshman Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) shot a 75 on day two to come within two strokes of Harper, and finish tied for 12th (80-75=155), her best collegiate finish.
"I am proud of our team's improvement," head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. "The freshmen really stepped up today and it showed with the low score of the day."
MU's first round leader Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) joined Kaci Boyd (Ashland, Ky.) as each carded a 79 in second round action. Ginger had a 36 hole total of 156 (77-79=156), while Boyd improved six strokes for a combined 164 (85-79=164).
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) rounded out the crew with an 81 (78-81=159) on Tuesday.
Morehead State maintained its first round lead to earn the tournament victory with a 594 (286-308=594). MSU's Emma Jonsson and Paige Laursier grabbed first and second place finishes, respectively. Jonsson snuck away with a one stroke victory carding a 146 (69-77=146).
The Herd tees off the UC Spring Invitational on Friday, Mar. 25, with first round action at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa at 8:30 a.m., in Crystal River, Fla.
