PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.- Marshall tennis's No. 1 doubles duo of Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova pulled-off an upset win over Nebraska's No. 45 ranked doubles team of Stefanie Weinstein and Janine Weinreich to advance to the second stage of the Qualifying round at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
The Marshall pair battled back from a two-game deficit to defeat its higher-ranked opponents 8-6 and move to the second round of Qualifying that will take place on Wednesday. Through five matches this fall the Herd ladies are 3-2.
"We went down 6-5, but bounced back and won the next three games," said head coach John Mercer. "It was an up and down match, but we battled through the adversity and came back to pull out a very close, but very good win. Hopefully we can find more of the same success tomorrow."
The Herd tandem will now face the No. 23 ranked Oregon team of Patricia Skowronski and Sofia Hager at 1 p.m. EST on Wednesday. If Zaprazna and Voscekova win, they will then advance to the quarterfinals of the qualifying round that same day to play against the winner of the Illinois vs. Texas A&M match.
