HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following the most successful season for Marshall swimming and diving as a member of Conference USA, the Thundering Herd will compete in the 2012 Conference USA Championships beginning Wednesday.

Competition begins Wednesday at the University of Houston's CRWC Natatorium and will run for four days. The Herd will compete against the host Houston, along with C-USA mates East Carolina, Rice, SMU, and Tulane.

19 members of the green and white will compete this week. The Herd will be led by a variety of swimmers including Kacey Preun, Sarah Kay, and Madison Lawhorn. Lauren Rone, a NCAA Zone Diving Championship qualifier, will look to give Marshall an edge in the diving portion of the competition.

Preun, who had 19 wins during the regular season, will look to continue her consecutive wins in the 200-yard Breaststroke. The freshman is seeded fourth in the event. Other events she is scheduled to compete that were her strong suits during the season include the 200-yard Freestyle, 500-yard Freestyle, and 1650-yard Freestyle.

Another strong performer for Marshall throughout the year was Sarah Kay. Her top event during the season has been the 200-yard Butterfly where she has yet to be defeated in nine tries. Her career best time of 2:02.20 during a December meet against Western Kentucky and Fairmont helped her secure the second seed in this week's meet. She will also swim in the 100-yard Butterfly as the 11th seed.

Lawhorn has been dominant in the 100-yard Breaststroke. The Baltimore, Ohio native has only been defeated once while claiming first ten times. Her time of 1:04.03 against WKU and Akron broke Fitch Natatorium and gave her the fifth seed in the event.

In the diving portion of the competition, Rone will take part in the one-meter event as the third seed. Her score of 281.55 against Xavier in the early part of schedule not only qualified her for zones but broke the Fitch Natatorium record. The junior will also take part in the three meter diving and the platform diving events.
