WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- The Thundering Herd tennis team took its 2-3 record to the campus of Purdue University on Saturday afternoon, and came away with a closely-contested 4-3 win over the Shockers of Wichita State.

Playing in the first of its two matches this weekend, the No. 66 ranked Marshall team squared-off against the 4-2 Shockers at the neutral site of Purdue's Schwartz Tennis Center. It was the second match in 24 hours for Wichita State, with the team having fallen to Purdue 5-2 just one day prior. For Marshall, the match represented a chance for the nationally ranked Herd to return to .500 following a tough opening portion of its 2012 schedule.

And, after over three hours of intense on-court battles, it was Marshall who outlasted its opponent with a 4-3 victory that included several come-from-behind wins. Amongst those members on the team who fought back was junior Dominika Zaprazna, who came from behind in both her singles and doubles matches to claim a vital two points for the Herd on the day.

The Slovakian native fell behind with a loss in the first set of her singles duel, but roared back to draw the match all-square with a second set victory. Then, with the other matches finishing it came down to Zaprazna's final set, where she rallied to claim a 7-5 victory that clinched victory for the Herd.

"It was a good win," said Head Coach John Mercer. "Dom and Maria did a great job coming back from being down. They really competed out there and helped pull-off a great result for themselves and our team."

Marshall - now back to .500 with a 3-3 record - will face No. 41 Purdue at noon tomorrow for its final match of the weekend.
