NEW YORK, N.Y. ââ'¬" Marshall sophomore tight end Ryan Yurachek was named to the 2015 John Mackey Award Watch List Wednesday afternoon. The Mackey Award is presented annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate tight end.
Yurachek has had an impressive first half of 2015, leading the Thundering Herd with 23 catches for 220 yards and four touchdowns. As a freshman, he caught 17 passes for 149 yards and two more scores.
The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2015 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 9, with the award presented live on the following night at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2015 Mackey semifinalists on Nov. 16 and the finalists on Nov. 24. All future announcements can be found at www.johnmackeyaward.com.
Pro Football Hall of Famer John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
Marshall (5-1, 2-0 C-USA) will be back in action Saturday at noon (ET) when it travels to Florida Atlantic (1-4, 1-1) for a game that will be carried on FOX College Sports with Mike Morgan, J.C. Pearson and Steffi Sorensen on the call. Marshall won a 35-16 meeting between the two schools last year in Huntington, as running back Devon Johnson rumbled for a school-record 272 yards and four touchdowns.
