IRVING, Texas -- Marshall's junior Ally Kiekover was named to the All-Conference USA first team as selected by league coaches Tuesday. Kiekover is one of 11 players selected to the first team.
"Kiekover has been unflappable this season," Herd coach Mitch Jacobs said. "This team has been all over the map when it comes to consistent play, but not Kiekover. This young woman shows up prepared to practice and competes hard every day. Combine that with talent, and she is truly maximizing her impact for the Herd."
Kiekover, a middle blocker, has played in 117 sets this season, and was first on the team in blocks with 74 and a .405 hitting percentage, while second on the team in kills with 320. In conference matches only, Kiekover ranked first in hitting with a .416 percentage.
The junior's .405 hitting percentage places her second all-time in a single season for the Herd, while for her career she sits at third all-time in Herd history with a .316 efficiency.
In C-USA matches only, Kiekover is the only player listed twice in the top 10 of attack percentage in a single match. Kiekover hit a .593 hitting percentage at Middle Tennessee on Nov. 14 and then .583 against UAB on Oct. 9.
Kiekover has recorded an above-.500 hitting percentage in nine matches this year, the highest being .704 in a 3-2 win over Boston College, as Kiekover recorded a season high 20 kills on 27 attacks. The junior had five C-USA matches of .500 hitting efficiency or better.
Kiekover's leadership showed in the final match of the regular season for the Herd. With Marshall in a win-or-go-home situation, Kiekover collected 18 kills on 27 attacks at Middle Tennessee. Marshall trailed 0-2, but rallied behind Kiekover's play to win the next three sets to send Marshall to the conference tournament.
"As this team moves forward to 2016, I do hope that her type of leadership -- a lead by example-type of leadership, becomes what the future of this program is all about," Jacobs said.
The Herd travels to the Conference USA Tournament in San Antonio on Friday to face Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. ET.
