HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
The Marshall women's basketball team play host to Alabama A&M Saturday, Dec. 5. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Herd (5-0) enter the game on its best start since 2003-04 and have been averaging nearly 81 points per game. The Bulldogs (0-5) are looking for its first win of the season.

Before the start of the game along the concourse will be a "Herd of Puppies". The Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control Shelter will be bringing a little herd of puppies to the game. They will be hanging out on the concourse for fans to play with and potentially adopt.

Saturday will also be "Big Green Day". All Big Green members get in for $1 and will get access to a special concessions pricing when they show their Big Green Card.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Alabama A&M has struggled so far this season starting 0-5 and have not reached 50 points in a game 3 times. The Bulldogs are coming off a 54-30 loss to Samford. A&M was led by freshman point guard Sydney Spencer with 10 points and added 3 rebounds and 2 steals, all career highs. The team is led by senior foward Janie Myles with 10.8 points and 6.8 boards per game. Myles did not play against Samford. This will be the first ever meeting between Marshall and Alabama A&M.

HAVE YOU HERD?

The last time Marshall started a season 4-0 was the 2006-07 season. Marshall wins were against:

at Navy 74-47, vs. Southern 61-50, vs. Robert Morris 72-64 and vs. Morehead State 65-62. The Herd finished the season 15-15.

The last time Marshall started a season 5-0 was the 2003-04 season. Marshall wins were against: Morgan State 88-34, vs. High Point 90-70, vs. Radford 80-50, vs. Wake Forest 60-49 and vs. Morehead State 84-61. The Herd finished the season 18-12.

With a win Saturday vs. Alabama A&M, it will be the 1st time Marshall has started 6-0 since the 1971-72 season in which the Herd started 20-0 and finished the year 21-1.

CONFERENCE HONORS

Oct. 7: Senior Leah Scott was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team after averaging 15.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.8 apg and 1.1 spg in 2014-15.

Nov. 16: Freshman Shayna Gore was name C-USA Freshman of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-15. Gore scored 40 points on 71.4 % shooting, was 50% from three, grabbed 8 boards, 5 assists and 5 steals in her 1st 2 collegiate games.

RECORD BOOK WATCH

The Herd has a few players who are approaching career milestones and rising up the ranks of the program record book.

Senior Leah Scott has scored 88 points this season giving her 921 career points. 79 points away from becoming the 19th player in team history to score 1,000 career points. She also ranks 11th all-time with 223 free-throws made and needs 17 more to be in the top 10.

Senior Norrisha Victrum can be found in a few places in the record book. Victrum has 288 assists and needs 3 to pass Stephanie Wine (1992-96) for 7th all-time. Victrum also currently ranks 9th in 3-point field goals made (94) and 9th in 3-point field goals attempted (291). Victrum needs 249 points to become the 20th player to reach 1,000 for her career.

Junior Chelsey Romero had a block party against NJIT recording 4 (for the 2nd time this season) more to pass Chris McClurkin (1984-88) for 5th place all-time and has 94. Romero needs 6 more blocks to become the 5th player in program history with 100 career blocks.

WINNING AT HOME

Marshall is on a 9-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents. The last loss was Dec. 29, 2013 against Navy, 72-68. Wins are:
