HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball prepares for its final non-conference weekend, as the squad will head to Thomasville, N.C., to face George Mason in a three-game series.
The Herd enters the weekend with a 4-7 record, and George Mason stands at 3-5.
Marshall and the Patriots will square off in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., and will conclude the series on 1 p.m. Sunday at Finch Field at Thomasville High Point Hi-Toms Stadium in Thomasville.
The Herd and George Mason all-time series is split at one run apiece, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 6-0 win in 2008 for Marshall.

Marshall picked up two more wins in close one-run games with Towson, and dropped another close one to Wake Forest (6-5) before falling 8-3 on Sunday. Sophomore Corey Bird (Pinch, W.Va.) and junior Ryne Dean (Fresno, Calif.) each hit their first homers of the season. Bird's was the first of his college career.
Seniors Josh King (Troup, Ga.) and Sergio Leon (Miami) are fourth and seventh, respectively, in league batting average with King pulling in .417 and Leon supporting .389. Leon is also second with 5 stolen bases.
Marshall has at least one player in the top 12 in 15-of-17 offensive categories in Conference USA. The team dropped from second to fourth in team batting average (.300), but is second in hits, home runs, and total bases.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
George Mason has picked up wins this season over Kansas State, Canisius, and Delaware. Freshman utility man Tyler Nelin leads the Patriots with a .571 batting average and 12 hits. Nelin is tied for a team-high eight RBI, and also leads the team with two homeruns.
The Herd begins conference play next weekend, playing host to UTSA at Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.
