Jan. 30, 2016

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Marshall is set for another competitive weekend as it will face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, Jan. 31 on the campus of University of Virginia at 9 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Herd battled last weekend at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Yale Bulldogs. After being defeated by 48th-ranked Tulsa, Marshall bounced back against the Bulldogs for a come-from-behind 4-3 victory. The Herd earned the first point of the competition in doubles play, but went on to drop the first three singles matches. Trailing 3-1 in the match, Marshall rallied to win the top three flights in the match to clinch the one-point victory.

WHERE WE RANK
In the recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings that came out on Wednesday, Jan. 27, Marshall is ranked No. 56. The Herd is the second ranked team in Conference USA, trailing Rice at 31, while ahead of Old Dominion, who is one behind Marshall at 57.

Individually, junior Derya Turhan remained ranked at No. 99. Turhan is 3-1 in 2016, including a current three-match winning streak.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
The 28th-ranked Gamecocks enter this weekend's matchup with a 4-0 record overall and are coming off an upset win over seventh-ranked Virginia. South Carolina has been dominant so far this spring as it has won its three matches with a combined score of 24-4.

South Carolina is led by freshmen Paige Cline and Ingrid Gamarra Martins. Martins leads the team with a 13-2 overall record, while Cline follows with an 11-4 record. The tandem combines for a 7-1 record in the spring.
