HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis head coach John Mercer announced the team's 2016-17 schedule, highlighted by 10 home dates with six of those matches featuring schools from the Power 5 conferences.
Kentucky (Jan. 18), Wisconsin (Jan. 21), Minnesota (Jan. 28), Louisville (Feb. 17), Penn State (Feb. 24) and Maryland (March 11) will all make the trip to Huntington in 2017. Marshall will face two more Power 5 schools on the road at West Virginia (Feb. 19) and Clemson (March 23).
"We're very excited about the challenging schedule we have in front of us," coach Mercer said. "It's a complement to all our previous teams that we can attract such great programs to play us both away and home.
Marshall will be featured in six fall tournaments. The fall season for the Thundering Herd will begin in Williamsburg, Va. at the William & Mary Tournament Sept. 16-18. The tennis team will then travel to the Virginia Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. (Sept. 23-25), the All-American Tournament in Los Angeles (Oct. 1-9), the Atlantic Regional hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. (Oct. 14-18), the UTSA/ITA National Indoors in New York City (Nov. 3-6) and finally the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, S.C. (Nov. 4-6).
In the spring, along with the six home dates against Power 5 conference schools, Marshall will play host to Eastern Michigan (Jan. 15), Columbia (Feb. 26), Miami of Ohio (March 5) and West Virginia State (April 2).
To go with the road dates at WVU and Clemson, the Herd will travel to Cincinnati (Feb. 3), VCU (Feb. 10), James Madison (March 18), Old Dominion (March 19), College of Charleston (March 21), Eastern Kentucky (April 2), USF (April 8) and Rice (April 9) to end the regular season.
The Conference USA Championship will be in Denton, Texas hosted by North Texas April 20-23. The NCAA Championships begin May 18 in Athens, Ga.
