Marshall Women's Golf Wins Thundering Herd Kickoff

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's golf team took first place at the Thundering Herd Kickoff Monday afternoon at the Guyan Golf & Country Club to start the 2016-17 season. It was the first competition for new Interim Head Coach Brooke Bellamy.

The tournament came right down to the end as the final scores were entered and Marshall grabbed the lead and held on for the win.

Marshall ended the two-round tournament with a 591 overall team score. Eastern Kentucky came in second at 592 and Northern Kentucky rounded out the day at 621. The Herd led by one after the first round and then Marshall and EKU tied at 291 in the second round.

Redshirt sophomore Sarfina Seretharan (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) finished second overall shooting a 73 in both rounds. Elsa Moberly of Eastern Kentucky took first overall after shooting a 4-under 67 in the second round to finish with a 1-under 141 for the day.

10 golfers played as individuals and Herd sophomore Joey Walz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the way with a two-round 155.
