Sept. 26, 2016

Day One Results

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Marshall women's golf team finished day one of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. The Herd ranks in ninth place out of 18 teams. Round three gets started with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Freshman Shelby Brauckmuller is tied for 10th and leads the Herd. Redshirt sophomore Sarfina Seretharan finished the day tied for 17th after climbing 21 spots from the end of round one. Seretharan improved by five shots from the first round to the second.

The host school, East Carolina, leads the field by 11 shots at 19-over par. Anna Magnusson of Morehead State is the individual leader after shooting a 1-under 71 in both rounds. The 71 in round one was the low score and a 4-under 68 by Shelby Thompson of Charleston Southern shot the best second round.

Interim Head Coach Brooke Bellomy:
"I'm pleased with the way the girls fought today. They didn't give up when they could have easily. The first 18 was good and we made some putts to make a few eagles and birdies. We were only playing with four during the second round so I stressed to them that every single shot counts. Shelby (Brauckmuller) continues to play well and I'm so proud of her for never giving up. Sarfina (Seretharan) fought back and played great as well."
