@Herd_Tennis Hits the Road for Match at Cincinnati

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's tennis team will play its first road match of the season Friday evening when it takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

Marshall is 3-1 with wins over Eastern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Herd owns an 18-1 lead in the all-time series with the Bearcats and has won 16 consecutive matches against Cincinnati. Cincinnati's lone win over the Herd was in 1999.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall swept its second straight Big Ten Conference opponent in its last match, defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 7-0, to improve to 3-1. The Herd won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, dropping just two total sets.

The Herd features three singles players with 3-0 records. Reigning Conference USA Player of the Year Derya Turhan has won all six sets in her three wins. In the one match she played in that went unfinished, Turhan held a 6-2, 3-4 lead over No. 12 Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky. Stephanie Smith has also won every set she has played in for the Herd. Smith won a 6-1, 6-2 match over Barbara Mancera when the Herd played Minnesota. Freshman Daniela Dankanych won a 6-4, 6-3 match over Camila Vargas Gomez of Minnesota to maintain her undefeated record.

The Herd features three doubles pairings with at least three wins this season. Rachael Morales and Maddie Silver are a perfect 3-0 this season and have won 15 consecutive doubles matches dating back to the 2015 season. The pairs of Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya and Smith and Dankanych each have 3-1 records.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati enters Friday's match with a 2-1 record. The Bearcats defeated IUPUI and Miami (OH) before losing to Indiana.

Cincinnati finished the 2016 season with a 12-11 record. The Bearcats were 1-3 in American Athletic Conference play and reached the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament before falling to USF.

The Bearcats are led by Kelly Poggensee-Wei, who has a 3-0 record at the No. 2 spot. Anna Philp owns a 2-0 record playing at the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. Lauren Bellinger and Antonella Bramato own 2-1 records at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots, respectively. Bellinger and Poggensee-Wei are the top doubles pair for the Bearcats. The pair holds a 2-1 record at the No. 1 spot.

THE LAST MEETING
Marshall 6, Cincinnati 1

Marshall won its fifth match in its last six against Cincinnati, storming to a 6-1 win over the Bearcats at the Huntington Tennis Club.

Turhan, Pomyatinskaya, Morales, Silver and Marija Bogicevic each won singles matches for the Herd, taking match wins at the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively. The Herd also took the doubles point as Turhan and Pomyatinskaya won at the No. 1 spot and Morales and Silver continued their win streak with a win at the No. 2 spot.

The win moved the Herd to 9-9. Marshall finished the season 11-11 and reached the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament before falling to Old Dominion.
