HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball begins its Conference USA schedule this weekend as it welcomes the UTSA Roadrunners to Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W.Va. for a three-game series. The Herd and Roadrunners will play Friday at Noon. The series is scheduled to continue Saturday at 3 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
ON THE MOUND
Friday: LHP Joshua Shapiro (1-1, 4.41 ERA) vs. LHP Nolan Trabanino (3-1, 4.03 ERA)
Saturday: RHP Wade Martin (1-1, 2.89 ERA) vs. RHP Tyler Giovanoni (1-0, 1.26 ERA)
Sunday: LHP Patrick Murphy (1-0, 5.50 ERA) vs. LHP Steven Dressler (0-1, 4.02 ERA)
HAVE YOU HERD?
The Thundering Herd heads into league play having won seven of its last eight games. Marshall currently sits in eighth place overall in Conference USA with an 8-6 record. MU picked up two wins last weekend over the Niagara Purple Eagles at the Kennedy Center Field.
Junior Tyler Ratliff continues to impress at the plate and on the mound. Ratliff has a 12-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 13 straight games. The Alexandria, Va., native has a team-high 20 RBIs, 18 hits and five doubles. He holds a .340 batting average and a .604 slugging percentage. Ratliff holds a 0.00 ERA in two appearances with two saves and five strikeouts.
Marshall ranks 16th in the NCAA for doubles plays with 18, while ranking seventh for double plays per game at 1.29. MU ranks first in Conference USA in both categories.
SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
UTSA enters this weekend series with an 8-7 overall record. The Roadrunners took one game from a three-game series against the No. 6 Texas Tech. Senior catcher Mason Georgie hit a three-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth to lead UTSA over the Red Raiders.
The Roadrunners have six players with a batting average over .300. They are led by senior catcher Kevin Markham with a .400 batting average. Markham is second on the team in RBIs with 13, trailing Skyler Valentine with 14. UTSA ranks second in C-USA with a .311 team batting average.

After the weekend series, Marshall heads out on a four-game road trip. The Herd will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Wednesday, March 22. Marshall wraps up its trip with a three-game series at Southern Miss from Friday-Sunday.
