HOUSTON - The Marshall women's tennis team won its third straight match Saturday, defeating the USF Bulls, 4-1, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Herd took the doubles point for the third consecutive match with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya defeated Olga Martinez and Juliana Cardoso, 6-4. Stephanie Smith and Daniela Dankanych defeated Jessica Chaves and Ana Roman, 6-4. Rachael and Maddie Silver were trailing in their match against Vera Bessonova and Vanja Klaric, 5-4, but the match went unfinished.
The Herd continued its strong play from doubles into the singles competition, taking three of the four completed matches. Turhan won in straight sets against Roman, 7-5, 6-1. Smith won the first set of her match against Cardoso in a tiebreak before claiming a 7-6, 6-2 win. Pomyatinskaya won in three sets against Nicole Dzenga, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Morales fell to Klaric in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Dankanych and Silver pushed their matches to three sets, but both went unfinished.

It was another hard fought match against a very good team. I thought we did an excellent job playing in challenging conditions because of the breeze. The match was much closer than the final score indicates. We played well today and look forward to another tough matchup against Rice tomorrow.
