HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Big Green Scholarship Foundation oversees numerous booster clubs for Marshall University’s Athletic Department, including the Huntington Quarterback Club.
One of the most popular events will again be hosted by the Huntington Quarterback Club – the annual Reverse Raffle membership party, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 in the Don Morris Room at the Memorial Student Center. Tickets will not be sold at the door. In fact, the event is expected to be sold out more than a month before the doors open that night at 6:30 p.m.
“The event is really the kickoff to our football season,” Huntington QB Club president Mark George said. “It’s a Reverse Raffle and a membership party because all of those who purchase tickets become members for the year.
“Last year, we sold out two weeks before the date and we think we’ll have it sold out by July 15 this year. It’s a great opportunity for our fans to interact with our head football coach and our football coaching staff, up close and personal.”
The featured guest speaker will be Carl Lee, an MU athletics Hall of Fame inductee who made three Pro Bowl appearances during an 11-year career in the National Football League.
The Reverse Raffle portion will reward 10 winners of $100, one winner of $1,500, one winner of $2,500 and a Grand Prize winner of $5,000 cash.
Tickets for the event are $135. The ticket price includes a 2017 membership to the Quarterback Club, where all proceeds go to offsetting costs for the football program. All of Marshall’s football coaches will be in attendance. There will be a buffet as well as an open bar that evening.
“I’m not sure what we would do without the support of our quarterback clubs,” Marshall football coach Doc Holliday said. “This is a great event.”
Lee, 56, was recognized at a Marshall men’s basketball home game in 2017 because of the creation of the Francis Foundation Endowed Scholarship in Honor of Carl Lee. He was a star defensive back for the Thundering Herd from 1979-1982, and has heaped praise on the late coach Sonny Randle and Randle’s assistants for molding him into a legitimate professional football prospect. He is a thoughtful and engaging speaker with a passion for Marshall University.
