Round One Results
TEXARKANA, Ark. - After 18 holes, the Marshall Thundering Herd men's golf team is in 11th place at the Conference USA Championship with a score of 22-over 310 at the Texarkana Country Club.
"Will Straub played some great golf today and Alex (Weiss) really saved a decent round with a couple of late birdies," head coach Matt Grobe said. "The conditions were very rough today, but we should have played better as a team. We are pretty disappointed and frustrated the way we played today. We have two round left and we have to play a lot better."
Redshirt freshman Will Straub is in a tie for 14th place after he finished the day with a 2-over 74. Straub had four birdies on the day, which is tied for fourth among the field. The freshman finished the first 18 holes with an average score of 4.25 on Par 5s and an overall score of 3-under, which led all competitors.
Senior golfer Alex Weiss finished the day in a tie for 29th place after he posted an overall score of 4-over 76. Weiss birdied on two of his final three holes.
Holding a steady lead is UAB, which has an eight-stroke lead over UTSA with an even-for-par 288. Individually, Rice's Mitchell Meissner and the Blazer's William Walker III are tied for first with a 4-under 68.
