ATHENS, Ohio-Marshall track and field wrapped up its fourth outdoor meet of the season Saturday at the Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by Ohio University.
Marshall won three of the nine events which featured Herd athletes. Two of the three first-place finishes were recorded by freshmen.
Freshman Lauren Zaglifa won the pole vault for the first time in her collegiate career with a top clearance of 3.36 meters (11 feet, 0.25 inches).
Senior Madeline Armstrong pulled away in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:48.58.
Freshman Isabella Tremble took first place in the 400 meter hurdles. She ran in 1:08.99.
"Overall I thought we performed really well," assistant coach Caleb Bowen said. "I thought Lauren [Zaglifa] started us out really well getting close to her personal record on a cold day in the pole vault. Maddy [Armstrong] got the running events started out well with a win in the 1500. She finished her race really tough over the final 400. Isabella [Tremble] went out really aggressive in the 400 meter hurdles and performed really well despite the cold conditions. It was a great experience for our younger athletes to get good competition without the big meet setting.
We're expecting really big things over the next few weeks. We're going to see even better competition the next four weeks leading into the conference meet. We want to be in a position to where we're confident with our fitness levels so we can have the best conference finish we've ever had. I can speak for the rest of the coaches that we've had some really good performances and we hope that keeps rolling on."
