Marshall men's and women's cross country were picked to finish within the top-eight schools in the Conference USA preseason poll, the league office announced Wednesday.
In the preseason poll voted on by the coaches of the conference, the men's team is predicted to finish sixth out of 11 schools while the women's team is predicted to finish eighth out of 13 schools.
The men's side was predicted to finish sixth last season in the preseason poll but finished fifth at the conference meet. The team returns a duo of seniors in Daniel Green
and Nick Schmidt
, who both earned All-Conference USA honors last season for finishes within the top-21 runners.
Green seeks to become only the second ever Marshall runner to earn three All-Conference USA honors in his career since Matt Schiffbauer earned the honors all four years of his career from 2008-11.
The men's team returns five of seven runners who competed at the 2017 Conference USA Cross Country Championship Meet, including the top-four (Green, Schmidt, Alex Minor
, Hunter Deem
Last season, the women's side finished 11th out of 13 schools. The team does return three of the top five individual runners from the C-USA Championships including Adriana Cook

, and Abigail Short

The 2018 Conference USA Cross Country Championship Meet will take place on October 27, and will be hosted by Florida Atlantic.
