Marketing and Fan Engagement Lead Intern Application
Position Summary
The Lead Marketing & Fan Engagement Intern serves as the highest student leadership position within the Marshall Athletics Marketing & Fan Engagement Internship Program. Lead Interns work directly with full-time staff to oversee game day operations, guide intern development, support fan engagement strategy, and assist in the execution of marketing initiatives across assigned sports and events. This role functions similarly to an entry-level athletics operations position and is intended for highly motivated student leaders pursuing careers in sports marketing, event management, or athletics administration.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Event Oversight
- Serve as the primary student lead for assigned athletic events and sports
- Lead and supervise intern teams during events
- Coordinate staffing assignments and operational coverage
- Serve as on-field/on-court event manager during assigned games
- Troubleshoot real-time operational issues and event challenges
- Assist with creation and execution of game scripts and run-of-show documents
- Support timing, cueing, and in-game production elements
- Communicate directly with athletics staff, sponsors, and campus partners
- Lead intern meetings and training initiatives
- Mentor and support the development of general Marketing interns
- Assist in evaluating intern performance and growth
- Assist with fan engagement strategy and promotional planning
- Help execute student section initiatives and campus outreach
- Support sponsor activations and special events
Qualifications
- Experience within Marshall Athletics Marketing & Fan Engagement preferred, but not required
- Current Marshall University student
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage high-pressure live event environments
- Strong understanding of athletics marketing operations and fan engagement
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
