    2012

Coach Arlene Stooke built the Marshall women’s track and field program from scratch in 1976 and coached the team for the next decade. In the program’s very first year of existence, Stooke sent sprinter Debbie Hall to the AIAW National Championship meet to compete in the 200-meter dash and by 1979 Marshall had won the WVIAA state title. A graduate of Slippery Rock University, before coming to Marshall Stooke had coached basketball along with track and field in the Pennsylvania high school ranks, where in the 1960s she was involved in a pilot study for what later became the President’s Council for Physical Fitness. Stooke was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
