As a two-time Mid-American Conference Player of the Year (2000 and 2002), Byron Carmichael was such a prolific scorer for the Marshall soccer team that he not only set the school record, but did so part way through his junior season. The Lumberton, N.J., product scored 10 goals as a freshman, set a still-standing school record with 18 goals in winning MAC Player of the Year honors as a sophomore, added 15 in helping Marshall to a MAC title as a junior and another 15 in grabbing another league player of the year award as a senior. After his Marshall career came to a close, Carmichael was a sixth-round selection by the Kansas City Wizards in the MLS Draft and finished his professional career as the all-time leading scorer for the Ocean City Nor’easters of the United Soccer Leagues. Carmichael was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
