A Milton, W.Va., native and Cabell Midland High School graduate, Casey Batey stayed close to home to attend college, continuing his stellar running career at Marshall. After winning two West Virginia state championships in 1997 for Cabell Midland, Batey ran straight to Marshall where he set several school records. Among his accomplishments with the Thundering Herd were Mid-American Conference titles and All-MAC honors for winning the league’s 3000-meter steeplechase title in 2001 and the 1500-meter championship in 2002. He was also honored as the 2002 Marshall Ed Starling Award winner as the school’s male Athlete of the Year. Batey was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
