A true iron man, Dan Wells was a four-year starter as an offensive lineman for the Thundering Herd football team, playing every one of Marshall’s 816 offensive snaps as a junior in 1977. Wells was voted the team’s most valuable player as a senior and, among other highlights, helped Marshall upset nationally ranked Miami (Ohio) in the 1976 season. The Middletown, Ohio, product also threw the shot put and discus for the Marshall track and field team. Wells was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
