Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame

Dave Kline
- Induction:
- 2009
- Class:
- 1979
Shortly after arriving at Marshall in the fall of 1975, Dave Kline set the school record in the three-mile run, and he was just getting started. After a stellar prep career that included three West Virginia state cross country championships at St. Albans High School, Kline ultimately became the first Marshall track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships when he advanced in the 10,000-meter run in the spring of 1977. That same fall, Kline helped the Thundering Herd win the Southern Conference cross country title at the league championship meet in Lexington, Va., and finished 15th in the National U.S. Track and Field Federation meet in the 15,000-meter run. Kline also received All-Southern Conference accolades by winning the 5,000-meter run in 1978, setting the Southern Conference and Marshall records in the process. Kline was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
