    1990

Recruited to play baseball at Marshall by legendary Thundering Herd coach Jack Cook, Dave Piepenbrink not only starred as Marshall’s starting shortstop all four years of his career, he later returned to spend nine seasons as the Herd’s head coach and finished his career with 170 victories, second at the time only to Cook in school history. The Huntington-East High School product finished his playing career as Marshall’s career leader with 41 doubles, 150 runs scored and 98 walks, and still ranks highly in several records categories.

Piepenbrink was named second-team All-Southern Conference as a junior, nearly leading Marshall to a tournament title and NCAA bid, and first-team all-league in 1990 as a senior, when he was also named to the All-Southern Conference Tournament team. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.
