Glenn Verbage
- Induction:
- 1988
- Class:
- 1971
When Glenn Verbage stepped into the batter’s box for Coach Jack Cook’s Thundering Herd, he was almost always going to hit the ball and hit it hard somewhere. As a sophomore in 1969, the Huntington native was second on the team in base hits in his first season of varsity competition, leading the team with three home runs. The power-hitting first baseman increased his home run total to five as a junior, driving in a team-best 23 runs while striking out only eight times in 88 at bats. Verbage exploded as a senior, batting .407 (50-for-123) with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 9 home runs and 37 RBIs. His hits, home run, RBI and extra base hits were all school records, and over the course of his career, Verbage struck out just 21 times in 309 at bats. After graduating from Marshall, Verbage became a Cabell County Magistrate. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.
