A part of one of the best one-two punches Marshall has ever put in the same backfield, Hunter Kincaid teamed with John Zontini to drive opposing defenses crazy in the 1930s. As freshmen, Kincaid, a product of Huntington High School, and Zontini helped Coach Tom Dandelet’s squad win Marshall’s final West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown with a 3-1 league record, and the pair then helped the school transition into the Buckeye Athletic Conference. In his senior season, Kincaid received second-team All-Buckeye honors. Also a four-year basketball player for Dandelet, who coached both sports, Kincaid was a guard who, as a freshman, helped Marshall beat archrival Morris-Harvey, 63-31, with what would remain the most points Marshall ever scored against a college opponent until Cam Henderson brought has fast break attack to Huntington after Kincaid’s career had come to a close. Kincaid was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.
