In an era of constant turnover for the Marshall volleyball team, Jaki Copeland-Good was the one constant that the Thundering Herd could count on. Originally signed to a track scholarship at Marshall out of Waverly, Ohio, Copeland-Good also decided to walk on to the volleyball team for Coach Linda Holmes in 1981. Her coach as a sophomore was Rita Simmons, then the program was suspended for a year. Copeland-Good returned when the program resumed under Martha Newberry in 1984 and was coached by Karen King in 1985. Despite the constant turnover, Copeland-Good received first team All-Southern Conference honors in both of her final two seasons. She was also a Summa Cum Laude graduate at Marshall and was named an Academic All-American in each of her final two seasons, twice won the Dr. Dorothy Hicks Award as Marshall’s top female student-athlete and twice won the Cam Henderson Award, which honors the Marshall athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of scholarship. Copeland-Good was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
