A co-captain for the Marshall volleyball team in 1982, Jill Mussman O’Brien stuck with the program when there was no team for the 1983 season, and then finished her career with the 1984 and ‘85 squads. As a senior, she led the team to a winning season at 16-15 overall and a 4-1 record in Southern Conference competition. For her contributions that season, she was honored with the inaugural Linda Holmes Leadership Award, named for the former Marshall coach. Mussman O’Brien then moved into the coaching ranks in the Cincinnati area, starting the volleyball program at DePaul Cristo Rey High School, a school targeted for low-income students and funded by the Sisters of Charity in the Queen City. She was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
