One of the most decorated swimmers in Marshall history, Jim Sheridan went on to a career in education and coaching, where he mentored countless others to highly successful swimming careers of their own. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native set several Marshall records in the mid-1970s in individual and relay freestyle and medley events and then became a graduate assistant coach for a Marshall team that included his younger brother, Mark. He became an assistant coach at Iowa and Auburn, then served as the head coach at Clemson from 1991-94. Sheridan then embarked upon a career coaching high school swimmers in Indiana and Ohio, where he has won several state team championships and helped dozens of individuals to state championships and All-American honors. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
