  • Class:
    1990
When Pat Carter won three consecutive West Virginia state tournament championships for Barboursville High School, he was just beginning to scratch the surface of the impact he’d have on the game of golf in the Mountain State. At Marshall, the Lesage, W.Va., native went on to lead the Thundering Herd in scoring average in both 1989 and 1990, serving as team captain and winning first team All-Southern Conference honors as a senior. Carter would go on to win the West Virginia Amateur championship 13 times, including a national record 10 in a row from 1995-2004, and qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship nine times. Carter was named the 2001 West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year and has been named the West Virginia Golf Association Player of the Year nine times. He was inducted into the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
