Despite playing for three head coaches in his four seasons as a member of the Marshall football team, Sam Manos excelled as a three-year starter for the Thundering Herd, receiving All-Southern Conference and All-American honors in 1986. Among his other accomplishments, Manos was the center who anchored the Herd line on the way to a 6-5 record in 1984, breaking a string of 20 consecutive losing seasons. Following his Marshall career, the New Castle, Pa., native played professionally for the Cincinnati Bengals in 1987 and 1988, starting three games at center in 1987. Manos was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
