With Tammy Wiggins on the floor, the Marshall women’s basketball team turned in a record of 79-36 during her career from the 1983-84 season through 1986-87, the best four-year record in school history. The team also went 32-7 in Southern Conference play over that same span. A three-time West Virginia All-State selection at Dunbar High School, the 5-foot-9 forward scored 1,360 points in her Thundering Herd career while also pulling down 809 rebounds, including 18 in a game against Appalachian State in 1986. As a sophomore, she helped Marshall win the first of what would become five consecutive Southern Conference regular-season titles and was also named to the league’s All-Tournament team. Wiggins was then named second team all-conference as a junior and first team all-conference as a senior. She was also a team captain for her final season and that year received the team’s Donna Lawson Leadership Award. Wiggins was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
