Todd Sager batted .378 as a freshman for the Marshall baseball team and kept on hitting throughout his career. The Huntington East High School product stayed home to play for Coach Jack Cook and by the time his career was complete the third baseman had become just the third Marshall baseball player named first team all-conference three times. In 1981, his freshman season, Marshall won its second Southern Conference championship with a 12-4 record. As a sophomore Sager received his first All-Southern Conference honor, which he added to again as he hit .357 as a junior and when he batted .376 as a senior. For his career, Sager batted .366, which was at the time the fourth best in school history, and he was also in the Thundering Herd top five in career doubles (38), home runs (25), RBIs (110), and total bases (264). His .667 career slugging percentage was then the best in school history. Sager was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
