HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision Sunday to Florida International in Conference USA action at the University Park Soccer Field in Miami.
The Golden Panthers (5-3-1, 1-0-1 C-USA) struck just over two minutes into the game on a Carron Williams breakaway goal. FIU tacked on another goal in the 10th minute on a David Hope tally and added one more at the 37:17 mark when Danny Vazquez dribbled around Marshall goalkeeper Greg Terhune (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) and fired a shot into the open goal.
Florida International continued the offensive onslaught in the second half with four goals, including a hat trick from freshman forward Levi Coleman. FIU goalkeeper Shawn Crowe faced four shots on goal in posting the shutout.
The Golden Panthers out-shot Marshall, 20-12, including a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. Terhune and Brad Kennedy (Lewisburg, W.Va./Greenbrier) combined to make seven saves for the Herd.
Marshall (2-6-1, 0-1-1) returns home at 8 p.m. Friday to battle SMU. The Herd then tackles No. 17 Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
