HUNTINGTON -
Mark your calendar. Here comes the Herd! This will be the chant of Marshall University fans across the region this spring and summer when the Big Green 2006 Coaches Tour visits a dozen communities to spread the word about the Thundering Herd.
The tour, which kicks off April 28 with a dinner in Princeton, will have stops along the way in Huntington, Williamson, Point Pleasant, Beckley, Charleston, Logan, Hurricane, Parkersburg and Glade Springs, as well as out-of-state jaunts to Lexington, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Headliners at all the Thundering Herd stops will be head football coach Mark Snyder, head men's basketball coach Ron Jirsa, head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick and athletic director Bob Marcum. Other Herd coaches and athletic department staff members will also attend these activities.
"It's a great chance for our coaches to meet a great number of Herd fans," said Marcum. "And it's a venue where we can thank those who support our teams and where we can provide them information about out teams and our student-athletes."
Tom Miller, president of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation, said he sees the Coaches Tour as a means to increase the numbers of those supporting the Big Green. "We provide scholarships to over 200 student-athletes," said Miller. "Every additional donor helps us come closer to realizing our long-term goal of providing funding for 100 percent of all athletic scholarships."
