HUNTINGTON - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum has announced the hiring of Derek Gwinn as the school's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

"I think it is great that Derek is coming back to Marshall," Marcum said. "I was always impressed with him in his time here as an assistant and we are looking forward to have him overseeing our compliance office."

He replaces David Reed who has accepted a similar position at the University of Miami (Fla.).

Gwinn comes to Marshall from Ohio University where he has served as Compliance Coordinator since January of 2006. The Pence Springs, W.Va., native served as a graduate assistant in the compliance office at Marshall from 2003 to 2005.

"I am excited about the opportunity to return and be a part of the Thundering Herd family again," Gwinn said. "Over the past several years Marshall has developed a reputation for its excellent compliance initiatives and I hope to continue to raise the bar in that area and help our coaches and student-athletes succeed."

During his tenure at Ohio, Gwinn supervised the Ohio compliance staff and oversaw all day-to-day compliance operations for Ohio's 20 varsity sports programs. He assumed the duties of Ohio's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in November of 2006 and has served in that capacity since.

Gwinn graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Marshall in 2003 and a Master's of Business Administration from Marshall in 2005.
