Marshall University coaches Mark Snyder, Donnie Jones and Royce Chadwick are all on board to join the 2007 Big Green Coaches Tour which has 12 stops from early May to mid-June.
Thundering Herd fans in nine West Virginia counties, plus others in Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia will have the opportunity to meet and greet the Marshall contingent which will also include other coaches, athletic department administrators, cheerleaders and Marco, the MU mascot.
The 2007 Big Green Coaches Tour begins with a visit to the Four Seasons Country surrounding the twin cities of Bluefield-Virginia and West Virginia.
The annual informational reception for the Putnam County fans at Sleepy Hollow Country Club will be the tour's last stop for Herd coaches and athletic administrators.
"We've got 12 stops along the way," said tour director Sam Stanley of the Big Green. "We're returning to the nine areas on last year's caravan and we've picked up three new stops."
Here's the detailed schedule:
- Thursday, May 3 in Bluefield, W.Va., for a dinner (Upper Classman) hosted by the Four Seasons Big Green Club. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., and the cost is $30 per person. Corporate/sponsored tables are available. Local contact is Roger Topping (304) 487-2205; email rtopping@charterbn.com.
- Wednesday, May 9 in Columbus, Ohio for a dinner at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Café sponsored by the Central Ohio Big Green Club. The dinner starts at 7 p.m. and the cost is $25 per person. - Friday, May 11 for golf tournament (Riverview Golf Club) in Mason, W.Va., hosted by the MGM (Mason, Meigs, Gallia) Big Green Club. Shotgun start is 9 a.m. Entry fee is $150 per person. - Sunday, May 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio, for a Big Green golf tournament and cookout (Legendary Run Golf Course) hosted by the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky alumni club. RJ Gimbl, executive director of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation, said "The tour also gives us an avenue to provide information to hundreds of folks about our university, our student athletes and the Big Green. It's a win-win fun time for us all."
Besides the Big Green Coaches Tour, the Marshall University M-Club will be sponsoring two golf tournaments-on May 18 at the Scarlet Oaks Golf Course in Nitro and on Aug. 17 at Glade Springs near Beckley.
Three other Marshall-related golf tournaments are also scheduled this summer. The Boone County Friends of Marshall alumni club has a scramble scheduled for June 9; The Marshall University and Big Green share sponsorship of a golf event at the Greenbrier on July 10; and the Atlanta area alumni club has a scramble scheduled for July 21.
