Men's Soccer Drops Quarterfinal Game to Kentucky 4-2

DALLAS, Texas - The Marshall men's soccer team season ends as Kentucky takes a 4-2 win Wednesday in the Conference USA Quarterfinals.
The Thundering Herd was behind in the fifth minute when the Wildcats scored with a shot from 16-yards out from Tyler Burns.
Kentucky would hit two more goals before the half with a shot from just outside the box from C.J. Tappel in the 14th minute and a breakaway goal from Michael Strong to give a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Marshall would battle back in the second half when senior Jira Cooley (Seattle, Wash.) netted his second goal of the year in the 68th minute when his shot bounced in off the crossbar. Junior Dustin Dawes (Nashville, Tenn.) was credited with an assist on the play.
The Wildcats would respond quickly to extend the lead back to three when Strong would score his second of the day with a header from a free kick.
With time running out, the Herd would make another surge with a goal from senior Kolby LaCrone (Zanesville, Ohio) in the 80th minute but the comeback would fall short there as Kentucky would take the game 4-2.
In goal, Marshall senior goalkeeper Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.) finished the game with six saves in 90 minutes of action.
With the win, Kentucky will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of the UCF and Memphis game.
