HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team fell to Northern Kentucky on Thursday afternoon 3-0 in an exhibition match at Sam Hood Field.
NKU controlled the action in the first half as they hit the post just two minutes into the match. The Norse would find the back of the net 15 minutes later as they took advantage of a counter attack to break the 0-0 tie.
Northern Kentucky added one more goal before the half as Steven Beattie, the reigning Division II National Player of the Year, slipped the ball under Marshall's keeper Greg Walter in the 28th minute for a 2-0 advantage which they would take to halftime.
Freshman Diego Ayala provided a spark off the Herd's bench in the first 45 minutes as he presented the Herd with some of their best looks at goal.
However, NKU would add one more just three minutes into the second half for a comfortable 3-0 lead and would go on to win by that margin.
Marshall plays their final exhibition match of the season next Tuesday in Cincinnati as they meet up with IUPUI. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Rapid Run High School stadium.
