HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Thundering Herd head men's basketball coach Tom Herrion has announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent to play at Marshall University beginning in 2011.

The signees include Dennis Tinnon (Green Bay, Wis.), Jamir Hanner (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Devince Boykins (Forest City, N.C.)

"I am thrilled with the addition of these three young men, my staff deserves every ounce of credit for the young men we are adding," Herrion said. "They did a great job through the spring and summer targeting these players."

Tinnon, a 6-8 forward, is entering his sophomore season at Kansas City Kansas Community College. As a freshman in 2009-10, Tinnon was named KCKCC co-player of the year. He averaged a double-double per game with 13.8 points and 10.7 rebounds on his way to second team all-conference honors.

"Dennis will add a level of maturity and experience as a Junior College transfer. He has the ability to make an immediate impact on our program," Herrion commented. "He is an outstanding rebounder and defender and his offense will continue to develop over time."

Tinnon was also recruited by Iowa State, Gonzaga and Auburn.

"Dennis plays for an outstanding coach at KCKCC in John Oler and he will be very well prepared after playing in an outstanding conference for two years in Junior College. We are excited that Dennis and his family will join our Marshall community."

Joining Tinnon in the class is 6-8 power forward Jamir Hanner. The Philadelphia native played for Newark (N.J.) NIA Prep last season and will play one more year of prep for Notre Dame Prep, which is located in Fitchburg, Mass.

"Jamir is an extremely talented young player, who continues to get better and better all the time. A versatile athlete, who can really run and has great instincts as a rebounder, Jamir will be someone we expect to play early in his career," Herrion explained.

Hanner had a successful season at NIA Prep, which culminated in a berth on the National Prep School Invitational (NPSI) All-Tournament Team. The tournament was held in Rhode Island in February. He originally committed to Seton Hall.

"I am excited because most of Jamir's future is ahead of him, he will develop greatly playing for Coach (Ryan) Hurd at Notre Dame Prep as they will contend for a Prep school national championship this season. As Jamir continues to get stronger physically, he will have an outstanding career at Marshall."

Rounding out the signing class is 6-3 guard Devince Boykins. Boykins is set to wrap up his high school career this season at East Rutherford (N.C.) H.S. As a junior, Boykins averaged 15 PPG, 13 RPG and six assists per game.

"Devince is a tremendously gifted and talented young man. He is an outstanding student-athlete who has a very bright future," Herrion said. "We have been so impressed with his desire to continue to develop as a player. He will be a tremendous addition to our basketball family." Boykins received interest from other schools including Miami (Fla.), Marquette, South Carolina, Liberty and Tulane.

"Devince is a versatile guard and as he continues to develop his overall skill level, he will become a more complete player."

All three are set to enroll at Marshall next year and begin play in the Fall of 2011.

"What impresses me the most is that as talented as they are as players, they are even better people and committed students. We are ecstatic to have them join our basketball family and our wonderful university."
