NORFOLK, Va.- The Marshall University women's tennis team is all set to travel to Norfolk, Virginia, for the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Old Dominion University at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Play begins on Friday and will conclude on Tuesday with the championship rounds.
For Marshall, the tournament will present an ideal setting in which to continue asserting its prominence in the region. The doubles team of Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova is fresh off a first place win at the Wake Forest Invitational, and will be looking for more championship glory when the pair begins its quest on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the round of 32. The pair is seeded No. 4 in the doubles tournament, and received a first round bye from the round of 64. Ellie Ball and Karli Timko, ranked No. 16 in the event, also received a first round bye, and will begin on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the same round.
For Kristina Koprcina and Kara Kucin, the road will be longer, as the pairing must begin its journey in the opening round of 64 against the University of Delaware's Dorothy Safron and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
In singles action, Zaprazna will start the tournament with a Saturday showdown against Temple's Yana Mavrina in the round of 64 at 2:30 p.m. Kristina Koprcina will play Kinsey Pate of James Madison University in the same round at 1:00 p.m., and Karli Timko will face No. 7 ranked Li Xi of UVA at 11:00 a.m.
Elsewhere, Ellie Ball will also begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a round of 64 face-off against Virginia Tech's Isel Martinez-Marcos, and Voscekova will play against a yet-to-be-determined qualifier at 12:00 p.m. that same day. Kara Kucin is the lone Herd player beginning the singles tournament in the qualifying rounds, and she will start at 11:00 a.m. on Friday as the No. 5 seed.
The winners of the tournament receive automatic entry into the ITA National Tournament, which is set to take place later in the year. For the complete draws and updated brackets during the event, please click here, or follow the daily updates on Marshall's official tennis website.
