HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Two seniors from the Marshall University men's and women's soccer teams were chosen for academic awards this past week, as Jordan Hilgefort and Katie Ball each claimed spots on Capital One Academic All-District Teams.

Ball, a senior left-back from Louisville, Ky., was honored with a place in the District II Second Team after posting a near-perfect 3.91 GPA in the classroom. The political science major also chipped-in on the field with one assist this year, and helped the Herd post 4 shutouts through the 2011 season.

Hilgefort, a senior defender and team captain from Hebron, Kentucky, received the award for the second year running as his strong performance in the classroom (3.86 GPA) and solid efforts on the pitch (1 goal, 2 assists, and 4 shutouts) helped him lead the Herd to a C-USA tournament berth and helped himself receive a place in the District II First Team. Hilgefort will now move on to be considered for a spot in the Capital One Academic All-America Team, as voted-on by coaches and sports information directors from across the nation.
