Marshall game captains versus Florida Atlantic, as chosen by Coach Doc Holliday and his staff, are tight end Eric Frohnapfel, offensive tackle Clint Van Horn, cornerback Corey Tindal and defensive tackle Jarquez Samuel.
The Herd defense's "tribute" to injured linebacker Evan McKelvey has sophomore cornerback Corey Tindal - who usually wears No. 10 - wearing McKelvey's No. 31 today versus FAU. McKelvey suffered a knee injury in the win at Old Dominion and is out for the season.
Senior center Chris Jasperse made his team-leading 47th career start (every game he's played at MU), tied for most among active offensive linemen in FBS. The Marshall record for starts - as an FBS program (1953-81 and 1997-present) -- is 52 by offensive tackle Steve Sciullo (1999-2002). Stat includes players on offense, defense; no specialists.
Running back Devon Johnson has passed 1,000 yards for the season, in only eight games - the fastest a Herd running back has reached 1,000 ground yards.
Wide receiver Tommy Shuler's second-quarter reception stretches his game streak with a catch to 35 games (tied for No. 9 longest streak in FBS).
Linebacker Neville Hewitt's 17 tackles (5:03 left, third quarter) are the most for a Herd player in a game since D.J. Hunter had 18 in Marshall's double overtime loss at East Carolina in the final game of the 2012 season.
Wide receiver Tommy Shuler (2,871 yards) has passed Nate Poole (2,840) for No. 6 on the Marshall career list. Shuler needs 15 yards to pass Tim Martin (2,886) for No. 5.
Quarterback Rakeem Cato has thrown a touchdown pass for a 40th consecutive game, the NCAA major college (FBS record). Only two quarterbacks in NCAA history have longer streaks, both in lower divisions -- 46 games - Mike Reilly, Central Washington, 2005-08 (Division II record); 42 games - Dominic Randolph, Holy Cross, 2006-09 (FCS record). Cato matched the 40 by Bill Borchert, Mount Union, 1994-97 (Division III record).
Running back Devon Johnson's 66-yard run for a touchdown in the fourth quarter is Marshall's 11th play of 50 or more yards this season. In 2013, the Herd had 11 plays of 50 or more in 14 games.
Running back Devon Johnson's 66-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter gives him six runs of at least 50 yards this season. He also has seven 100-yard games, tying the Marshall major college record for 100-yard games in a season (Ahmad Bradshaw, 2006; Darius Marshall, 2008). The school mark is 10, accomplished three times by Chris Parker in the Division I-AA era (1993, '94, '95).
Running back Devon Johnson broke the single-game rushing record at Marshall with 272 yards (24 carries). The previous record was 262 by Ron Darby (47 carries) at Western Carolina, 1988.
Running back Devon Johnson's 17 touchdowns this season are the most for a Herd player since running back Ahmad Bradshaw had 21 in 2006.
Four rushing touchdowns for Devon Johnson is the most rushing touchdown for a Herd player since Ahmad Bradshaw had five against UTEP in 2006.
