RICHMOND, Ky. - In a defensive battle which saw seven lead changes, five ties and a largest lead of six, Marshall women's basketball (4-2) dropped a 63-58 decision to Eastern Kentucky (4-3) on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
Junior Norrisha Victrum (Columbia, S.C.) led the Herd in scoring for the first time this season with 13. Sophomore Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) and senior AJ Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) rounded out double-figure scoring with 12 and 10, respectively. Chukwuka Ezeigbo (Trenton, N.J.) grabbed 10 boards in Marshall's 41-40 outrebounding effort.
As a team, the Herd topped the Colonels in the paint (28-22), on second chances (15-11) and on fast breaks (4-2). Marshall went 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from long range and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the free throw line. Its performance from the charity stripe was the best of the season, after going 19-of-25 (76.0 percent) at Rhode Island on Nov. 14. In contrast, the Colonels went 22-of-62 (35.5 percent), 7-of-19 from 3-point range (36.8 percent) and 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) on free throws.

THE SERIES
The Colonels now lead the series with the Herd, 18-8, winning the last six consecutive meetings. Marshall's last win against EKU was Nov. 27, 1995 (77-61, in Huntington).
